What are webhooks?

An introduction to webhooks and how they may be used for your business

Written by Kelly Beeby

Webhooks let Rock Paper Coin automatically notify another app when something happens in your account. Instead of repeatedly checking for updates, the other app receives the information as soon as an event occurs.

How webhooks are delivered

Your organization provides a secure web address—called a webhook endpoint—and chooses which events it wants to receive. When a selected event occurs, Rock Paper Coin sends the event details to that address using a secure HTTPS request.

Each message includes information about the event and a digital signature that your system can use to confirm it came from Rock Paper Coin. If the receiving system is temporarily unavailable, Rock Paper Coin will retry delivery up to four more times over the following 24 hours.

Because a message may occasionally be delivered more than once or arrive out of order, your technical team should use its unique event ID to identify duplicates.

What can webhooks be used for?

Webhooks can help you:

  • Update records in accounting, reporting, or customer-management software.Start an automated workflow when a payment is recorded.

  • Send notifications to your team or customers.

  • Keep information synchronized between Rock Paper Coin and other systems.

  • Build custom reports and integrations without manually exporting data.

Webhook setup usually requires help from a developer or the provider of the app you want to connect.

What webhook does Rock Paper Coin support?

Currently, RPC supports webhook notifications when an invoice installment is paid.
